Frac tank rental questions, answered plainly

How much does a 500 bbl frac tank hold in gallons?

21,000 US gallons. An oilfield barrel is 42 gallons, and 500 × 42 = 21,000.

How big is a frac tank?

The two 500 bbl maker listings checked are about 43 feet long, 8.5 feet wide and 10 to 11 feet tall, weighing about 29,500 lb empty. Other builds run to about 45 feet. The rental firm can send the exact drawing for its own tanks.

How heavy is a full frac tank?

Fresh water alone adds about 175,000 lb (21,000 gallons at 8.34 lb a gallon), on top of roughly 29,500 lb of steel. Brine and flowback are heavier than fresh water, which is why a firm, level pad matters.

What does frac tank rental cost in Odessa or Midland?

Only the rental firm can say, and the price depends on how many tanks, for how long, how far they travel, and what goes in them. Bills are usually split into rent per day plus delivery, pickup and washout. The quote checklist page shows how those lines add up.

How soon can tanks be delivered?

That depends on the firm's stock and trucks that week, and on how far out the lease is. Put your date in the request and the firm will tell you whether it can make it.

Do I need secondary containment around a rented tank?

If the tank holds oil or oily fluid, the federal SPCC rule (40 CFR 112) generally expects mobile and portable containers to sit within secondary containment. Ask your environmental lead what your location's plan requires; berms and mats can usually be rented with the tanks.

Can a frac tank hold acid or chemicals?

Some lined steel tanks and poly tanks are used for chemicals, but compatibility depends on the exact chemical, its strength and temperature. Name the chemical in your request and ask the firm to confirm in writing.

Who am I dealing with when I send the form?

Your request is passed to one tank rental firm that works the Odessa and Midland area. That firm quotes and rents to you directly. The footer explains who runs this site and how it is paid.
