What to have ready for a frac tank quote

A rental firm in the Permian can price a tank job quickly when the request already answers its first eight questions. Copy this list into the form, fill in what you know, and leave blanks where you don't.

  1. How many tanks, and which type. For example "6 × 500 bbl closed steel" or "2 weir tanks".
  2. Where. County, lease or yard name, nearest town and road.
  3. When on, when off. Delivery date, and either a pickup date or a rough length of hire.
  4. What goes in. Fresh water, brine, flowback, produced water, oily water, chemical. This decides lining, washout and disposal.
  5. Fittings. Hose sizes, manifold needs, stairs or walkways.
  6. Containment. Whether you need berms or mats with the tanks.
  7. Site access rules. Orientation, H2S, gate times, plant permits.
  8. Who gets the invoice. Company name, a PO or AFE number if your company uses one, and whether you need the firm set up on a vendor list first.

How the bill is usually built

Expect separate lines rather than one price per tank. Typical lines are rent per tank per day, delivery, pickup, washout or cleaning, and any extras such as containment, hoses or stairs. Fuel surcharges and standby time also appear on some invoices. Ask the firm to list every line before you agree.

A dated, public example (not a Permian price): a 2017 Louisiana project file shows five tanks for 30 days at $6,000 in rent, plus $7,000 for delivery and pickup and $2,500 for washouts. Delivery, pickup and cleaning came to more than the rent. Today's Permian prices come only from the firm's quote.
